All SATA Storage System with Super Speed
Flexible Storage with Interchangeable, Removable Drive Trays
The SilverSATA Series offers you a choice of enclosures that work with fast SATA drives. Removable trays work in any of the SilverSATA enclosures, making the drives fully interchangeable.
This means you'll be able to take only the tray - the lightest and smallest part of the enclosure - anywhere you like. Take the tray from one SilverSATA to another. Insert the tray, and get to work immediately. Take it offsite as a safe backup, transport work from home to office, or carry it to a coworker's desk - up to 1000GB per tray.**
Sleek, Small, Compact Enclosure
SilverSATA Series' streamlined design makes it the smallest single and multi-bay disk enclosure available. Its attractive design occupies only a small footprint on your desk.
Soft-grain Drive Case for ProSATA or SilverSATA Trays
Order code: CASE-TRAY
They feel great to hold, they keep dust off of the hard drive, and they tote
well. Those are just three reasons to get a WiebeTech emblazoned leatherette
drive case. Use the clear window on the front to label the drive, mark it
"Monday Backup", or drop in a business card to identify the case and contents
as yours. Powered by velcro, the flap will keep the drive and contents snug,
while the case itself will protect the drive electronics from dust. These
cases are made especially for the SilverSATA and ProSATA trays with hard
drives. Buy the case seperately for 19.95, or get it free with the purchase of an extra
tray with hard drive drive pre-installed.
Fast Speeds
All SilverSATA units accept the largest, highest capacity 3.5" SATA drives for large amounts of storage space. Transfer rates are fast! Speeds can exceed 200 MB/s on the SilverSATA V SR (when properly configured as a software RAID). The connections are fast, too. Most of the SilverSATA line has eSATA connectors - which let you make the most of your drives' speed. A SilverSATA II and IV are now available with a FireWire 800(400) connection also. A portable SilverSATA V is also available with an Ultra320 SCSI connection yielding data transfer speeds up to 250MB/s. Take connection types and transfer speeds into account when looking at the comparison chart and reading about each unit below.
Product Comparison Chart - SilverSATA Series
SilverSATA I Internal
Features a swappable tray in a standard 5 1/4" (same size as most CD-ROM drives) internallly mountable bay. A spare internal SATA port is required (see our PCI host card page for options). Mac Desktops use a smaller size for their optical drives, so SIS1-INT works in PC towers only. Nearly all PCs use this standard 5.25in size.
SilverSATA II SR
Great Choice for Automatic Backups
SilverSATA II SR, a very popular dual bay unit, has a special surprise - it treats both drives as one volume. Through a hardware RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) the Dual bay enclosure can perform either of these tasks:
- RAID 0 (striping). Make both disks look like one large disk. One volume mounts on your computer with a volume the size of both disks added together*. The trays are no longer independently portable (as both disks are required for the RAID) but you can get huge volumes, such as a one 1.5 terabyte volume with two 750 gigabyte disks, as well as faster read and write speeds.**
- RAID 1 (mirroring for Automatic Backup!). 100% backup. Every time you write to the Dual bay under RAID 1, it will put all of the new data onto both disks. If one drive goes bad, the SilverSATA will keep working with the other drive, so there is no down time. When a replacement drive is inserted, it will copy all the data to the new backup drive on its own. You can even pull a drive and insert a spare drive and let it perform a backup. Take the new backup offsite for even more secure backups. If you need to view a backup disk on another computer, a mirrored tray will work on another SilverSATA enclosure.
SilverSATA II has a fast eSATA port, plus a USB2 port for compatibility.
SilverSATA II SJ
SilverSATA II SJ features dual swappable SATA drive bays, two independant eSATA connections for two fast mountable drive volumes to your computer.
SilverSATA II FH
By request, we now offer a FireWire version of SilverSATA II. SilverSATA II FH features dual swappable SATA drive bays, 2 FireWire 800 ports, 1 FireWire 400 port and a USB port. Its Oxford 924 chipset means you'll have the fastest available FireWire transfer speeds. SilverSATA II FH can be configured as either a hardware RAID 0 or JBOD (independent disks).
SilverSATA IV FH
This FireWire version of the SilverSATA IV features dual independent hardware RAIDS with two pairs of dual FireWire 800 (400 compatible) ports. Each pair of drives can be independently configured as JBOD or hardware RAID 0. This 4-tray version holds up to 4TB capacity.
* When RAIDing it's best to use drives of equal size - all drives will be treated as the smallest drive in the RAID.
**All capacities are prior to RAIDing and formatting. 1GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes.
